MissedClass

Hey sorry about missing class the other day but had to attend a safety meeting for my work. I guess what I missed in class I could share one bit of information that affects use all. It is young people dieing from inhaling the compressed air cans that people use to clean off their computer keyboards and stuff... If there is a high out there to be found someone is willing to try it out and spread it to those willing to follow. The only thing is they forgot to tell these young people that this quick high can take your life. I realize none of use are stupid enough to try it but you pass these words of wisedom on to those who use this product and who may have children who may try this deadly high.

Presentationsinclass

Sorry abot the title being one word but if I don't it will be in Araibic? I wanted to say that I learned a lot the other day in class from the presentations. I guess I didn't know that ciber bullying was such a big deal. I to hear about that poor girl killing herself over it makes one sick. That one struck close to home because I have children of that age and you know how kids can be cruel to each other.

WebQuest

Web Quest.
This is an awesom idea for teachers to use in the classroom. The only thing is getting more experience to create one may take some time to learn. I really liked the samples we looked over in class and hope that mine turns out half as good as those. I think as teachers the more we show students that computers have so much more value then games it will only help our students out in opening a door that is filled with tons of information.

Powering the point!
This was one of the few times I have done anything with PowerPoint. I was really impressed with how simple it was to start and get running. I didn’t realize really how simple it was to build and display a program in such a short time. There a several different formats to follow to kind of set the tone of your presentation and gear it accordingly to the audience you are trying to reach. A person can add pictures and paste them into your program to spice it up. References can be used within the program to allow you to click on it and go to the site while during the program. That is convenient. A person doesn’t have to flip back and forth from document to document.
I think this is a great tool for a teacher to use in the classroom and use for all sorts of occasions. For example a class could do a project using the PowerPoint and really have an outstanding way to us sources and information to really entertain the rest of the class.

Sources for Research by Students

I was shocked to learn how much crap a student can get by doing a search for a paper or project on the Internet. I guess I really never thought that people and organizations would take the time to misrepresent people and things like they do. In class the other day we did the search on Martin Luther King Jr. and that was the first time I seen this sort of thing to such a degree. I know who he is and what he stood for and admire what and how he tried to get equal rights for people in the United States. But if I was a young student doing research on him and didn't really know what was truth and what was fiction it would be hard to tell especially how they had the hate site listed as the third choice for the search. I clicked on that site and if you are not paying attention it looks like a legitimate site for source of information. But then you start to read on and you can see that it is a site for hate, racism, and slander. The problem is too many children believe that what is on the Internet is gospel and truth without a doubt. I know for a fact that this happens with the pop-up windows promising things for free and all you have to do is fill out a simple quiz or fill in your personal information. It is a scam. Young children are innocent to this sort of thing because in their mind they still are trusting and haven't experienced what the world is really like. It is terrible that this sort of thing exist but I guess free speech does have it's price and it is sad that children have to pay the cost.

Computers of yesteryear!!!

Computers have changed sooooo.... much since I was a younger. The first I remember was a basic keyboard that hooked up to a TV which was more of a DOS system where you had to type in all the commands.
It blew because everything had to be correct and very frustrating to make sure it was. I think people really thought they could not do much on them so they really didn't catch on. The next was the old green monitors which stained the screen with letters that were left on the monitor to long. They were hard to read because the old burnt in letters would bleed into everything you wrote or worked on. If you have know idea what I am talking about you are lucky. You have not seen the frustrating computers that had less memory then a digital watch.

I use computers everyday and everyway to do my job.

What I want student in my class is to realize the vast source of information that is on the computer and how it will be able to provide them answers to most of their questions. If they want to experience Africa it will be possible with a simple search on the net... I realize that computers are the future of the human race and they need to be prepared to use them in every job they will be doing!!!
